The Executive Communications Officer role offers a unique opportunity to shape, amplify, and elevate the public image and voice of CIFOR-ICRAF’s leadership and research excellence. As a strategic member of the communications team, the Executive Communications Officer will manage critical communications platforms, develop content for high-level audiences, and support executive visibility through compelling storytelling and digital engagement.
This position demands creativity, diplomacy, and a deep understanding of the power of narrative in driving transformation, behavior change, and policy advocacy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Communications Officer will serve as the key communications liaison for the CIFOR-ICRAF executive leadership. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Social Media Management
- Oversee the development, implementation, and execution of a comprehensive social media strategy for executive-level communication.
- Manage official social media accounts including Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms.
- Curate and schedule engaging and mission-driven content to elevate the organization’s digital voice.
- Monitor social media analytics and provide detailed reports and recommendations to optimize engagement.
- Respond to messages, mentions, and inquiries in a professional and timely manner, maintaining a consistent tone aligned with CIFOR-ICRAF values.
2. Executive Speechwriting and Messaging
- Draft, edit, and refine speeches, talking points, and remarks for public engagements, internal town halls, high-level forums, and partner briefings.
- Conduct research to ensure contextual relevance, data accuracy, and consistency with CIFOR-ICRAF’s core messaging and strategic goals.
- Collaborate with thematic experts, country offices, and policy leads to integrate thought leadership, insights, and regional narratives into executive communications.
3. Presentation and Multimedia Content Development
- Design and produce visually compelling, brand-aligned presentations for both internal and external use.
- Develop creative slide decks, keynotes, and video scripts using tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Maintain a library of ready-to-use templates and presentation assets to support dynamic communication across departments.
- Collaborate with visual designers and multimedia teams to deliver impactful content.
4. General Strategic Communications Support
- Write internal newsletters, blog posts, and thought leadership articles.
- Coordinate media engagements, prepare briefing packs, and support high-level media interviews.
- Facilitate and document CEO and executive appearances in stakeholder forums, media briefings, and internal communications events.
- Draft scripts and manage logistics for CEO-led video communications or filmed addresses.
- Ensure alignment of executive messaging with broader communications strategy, brand guidelines, and campaign objectives.
5. Stakeholder and Partner Engagement Support
- Collaborate with the wider communications team to align strategic messaging with institutional priorities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, partners, and donors.
- Support fundraising, advocacy, and strategic initiatives through tailored messaging and communication collateral.
6. Monitoring and Evaluation
- Track, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of executive communications outputs (e.g., speech impact, social engagement, media reach).
- Use data insights to adjust tone, style, and platform usage for maximum reach and influence.
- Stay informed of industry trends, global issues, and sector-specific language to refine messaging.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is a strong advantage.
Experience Requirements
- At least 3 years of progressive experience in a communications role, preferably supporting executive leadership in international organizations, NGOs, government, or think tanks.
- Demonstrated excellence in crafting and executing multi-channel communication strategies.
- Experience with speechwriting, press statements, newsletters, blogs, and campaign materials.
- Proven ability to manage high-profile social media accounts and build digital presence.
- Strong understanding of audience segmentation, message framing, and media relations.
Technical and Creative Skills
- Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite, TweetDeck).
- Proficiency in graphic and presentation tools: PowerPoint, Keynote, Canva.
- Understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) is desirable.
- Familiarity with internal communication platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and MS Teams.
- Ability to conduct digital analytics and prepare detailed reporting (Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics, etc.).
