INTRODUCTION

As an Electricity Officer, you will engage in critical functions such as formulating and implementing energy regulations, conducting power system audits, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Power Systems Function
- Develop and implement regulations governing the supply and use of electrical energy.
- Conduct technical audits of power utilities and electrical installations and compile comprehensive reports.
- Monitor power generation, transmission, distribution, and supply projects to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Investigate electrical accidents and incidents, preparing in-depth reports for analysis and future prevention.
- Collect, analyze, report, and maintain power system data for regulatory and operational use.
- Prepare position papers and briefs on regulatory compliance, accident investigations, and technical audits for senior management.
- Develop and execute annual work plans and procurement plans to enhance efficiency within the department.
Consumer Installations Function
- Develop regulatory standards for consumer electrical installations and metering systems in collaboration with statutory bodies and agencies.
- Monitor electrical contractors and personnel to ensure adherence to established safety and quality standards.
- Provide technical input in the periodic review and adjustment of retail electricity tariffs.
- Investigate electrical accidents and incidents, submitting detailed reports to relevant authorities.
- Conduct technical audits of electrical installation sites and metering points, preparing comprehensive reports for policy development.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of electrical installation certificates for compliance tracking.
- Keep records of electricity meters in operation across different regions.
- Participate in designated committees and working groups focused on electricity regulation and safety.
- Contribute to the preparation of departmental work plans and budgetary allocations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Graduate Membership with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) in good standing.
- Proficiency in computer applications for data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
- Compliance with the requirements outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
