The Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) is a body corporate established under Section 3 of the Supplies Practitioners Management Act, 2007.   • Licensing and Registration: Registering and licensing qualified supplies practitioners as per Section 6 of the Act.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Deputy Director, Legal Services, you will be entrusted with critical responsibilities, including:

  1. Council Support:
    • Providing secretariat services and technical assistance to the Council and its Committees.
    • Advising on corporate governance practices and legal matters.
    • Coordinating Council evaluations and governance audits.
  2. Legal Oversight:
    • Managing Council minutes, legal documents, the Institute’s seal, and legal instruments.
    • Interpreting laws governing the Institute’s operations and providing timely legal advice.
    • Formulating, vetting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, leases, agreements, and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs).
  3. Policy and Compliance:
    • Spearheading policy formulation and reviews in alignment with laws and government circulars.
    • Overseeing litigation management, including liaising with external lawyers for representation.
    • Ensuring compliance with governance principles, transparency, accountability, ethics, and integrity.
  4. Leadership and Development:
    • Supervising strategic plans, budgets, performance contracts, and staff appraisals.
    • Managing departmental staff and fostering professional growth.
  5. Audits and Reporting:
    • Conducting legal audits and ensuring adequate representation of the Institute in court and legal forums.
    • Providing overall supervision and guidance for the department’s strategic initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Law or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB).
  • Diploma in Legal Practice from a recognized institution.
  • Professional qualifications in law and active membership in a relevant legal body.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, with at least 4 years at a managerial level in a comparable organization.
