KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, cut, and stitch ladies’ tote bags and other casual bags, ensuring fashionable, well-finished, and durable products.
  • Create stylish accessories such as belts and hats, applying innovative design elements and attention to detail.
  • Construct and tailor ladies’ clothing, including blouses, skirts, dresses, and more, from start to finish.
  • Execute embroidery and beadwork, integrating cultural artistry into modern fashion designs.
  • Engage with customers professionally, answering inquiries, taking orders, and offering guidance on product selection.
  • Record all purchases and stock movements, using accurate logs for materials and financial tracking.
  • Manage inventory of fabrics, threads, accessories, and other supplies, conducting routine stock audits.
  • Procure workshop supplies, ensuring timely restocking while keeping within budgetary constraints.
  • Propose and develop new product designs and prototypes, helping shape future collections and respond to market demand.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the shop and workshop area, complying with hygiene and safety standards.
  • Deliver assigned tasks on time, even under pressure, maintaining quality output and meeting client deadlines.
  • Support the sales team by presenting finished pieces attractively and suggesting marketing enhancements where necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Certificate in Fashion & Design or a similar qualification is required.
  • Diploma in Fashion & Design or a related discipline is highly desirable and considered a strong advantage.
  • 5–10 years of professional tailoring experience, specifically in women’s fashion, accessories, and embroidery.
  • Expertise in operating commercial sewing machines, industrial overlock machines, and finishing tools.
  • Advanced cutting and pattern drafting skills, essential for both clothing and accessories.
  • Proficiency in embroidery and beadwork, with the ability to incorporate decorative and structural details seamlessly.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with fluency in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Experience with client consultations, including taking measurements, discussing style preferences, and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Strong record-keeping and administrative skills, particularly in tracking inventory, supplies, and expenses.
  • Creative flair and ability to innovate designs, adapting to current trends and customer feedback.
  • Ability to work independently, manage personal tasks, and collaborate with team members when required.
  • Excellent time management, multitasking efficiently without compromising quality.
  • Positive attitude and coachability, with a willingness to accept and act on constructive feedback.
