INTRODUCTION

Mildmay International Kenya (MIK) is looking for a highly motivated Data Clerk to support its TB intervention project in Bungoma and Vihiga Counties. This role is crucial in ensuring efficient data collection, entry, management, and reporting of TB-related program activities. The successful candidate will work closely with program teams, Community Health Promoters (CHPs), Community Health Assistants (CHAs), TB champions, and health service providers to facilitate data accuracy and enhance reporting processes.

The fight against Tuberculosis (TB) remains a critical public health priority in Kenya, and data-driven decision-making is fundamental in combating the disease. This position offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about public health to directly contribute to strengthening health systems and ensuring that TB cases are detected and managed efficiently.

Accurate data collection and reporting enable health policymakers, medical professionals, and community health workers to better allocate resources, assess intervention strategies, and improve patient care. The Data Clerk role is instrumental in enhancing this effort by ensuring that real-time, high-quality data informs decisions that impact lives positively.

Currently, MIK is implementing a TB intervention project in Bungoma County, funded by the Global Fund through Amref Health Africa. This initiative focuses on strengthening TB case detection, treatment adherence, and prevention strategies in Bungoma and Vihiga Counties. Through community-centered approaches, MIK continues to bridge the gap between health facilities and underserved populations, improving access to essential medical services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data Collection & Entry: Accurately collect and enter TB-related data from the field into designated databases and systems.
  • Data Management: Organize and maintain accurate, up-to-date data records, ensuring easy retrieval and proper documentation for reporting.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Work closely with the Program Officer and M&E team to track program progress, analyze data, and generate reports on TB activities and outcomes.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct routine data validation and verification checks to maintain accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Support Program Activities: Collaborate with the program team to monitor TB case detection, treatment adherence, and prevention efforts.
  • Data Visualization: Assist in presenting data in meaningful ways, including charts, graphs, and reports, to facilitate evidence-based decision-making.
  • Training & Capacity Building: Provide support in training health workers, volunteers, and community staff on effective data collection and reporting techniques.
  • Documentation: Ensure compliance with MIK and donor reporting standards, maintaining all required documentation related to TB program activities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with health facilities, field teams, and stakeholders to ensure adherence to data collection and reporting protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Education: Diploma in Data Management, Information Technology, Public Health, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience in data entry or data management, preferably in health or community-based programs.
  • Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of data management systems, databases, and data entry software. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant computer packages is required.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret data trends, identify inconsistencies, and suggest process improvements.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong ability to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Communication Skills: Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in team-based settings.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Independence & Teamwork: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
