You will be responsible for proofreading and editing at least 40 articles per day, ensuring that content aligns with our in-house style guide and meets SEO standards. This role is perfect for someone with a deep understanding of Kenyan news, politics, sports, entertainment, and global current affairs. You will also work closely with writers, offering constructive feedback to enhance article quality and audience engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Editing & Proofreading: Carefully edit and proofread articles for clarity, conciseness, factual accuracy, and grammatical correctness.
• High-Volume Content Review: Process and refine at least 40 articles per day (approximately 20,000 words), ensuring strict adherence to editorial and SEO guidelines.
• Maintaining Editorial Integrity: Implement the best editorial practices and ensure compliance with Tuko.co.ke’s in-house style guide and journalistic standards.
• Fact-Checking: Cross-reference information to verify names, dates, figures, statistics, and references in published articles.
• Enhancing Readability: Suggest improvements to article structure, flow, and overall readability, ensuring an engaging and informative experience for readers.
• Optimizing Headlines & Captions: Ensure social media headlines, article titles, and captions are engaging, concise, and grammatically sound.
• Ensuring Content Consistency: Check for uniformity in spelling, tone, and format across all published content.
• Providing Constructive Feedback: Offer guidance to writers to improve their writing style, factual accuracy, and adherence to content guidelines.
• Checking Visual Content: Ensure images, illustrations, and captions are relevant, correctly attributed, and aligned with article content.
• Tracking Recurring Issues: Maintain a log of common editorial issues and propose solutions to enhance the overall content strategy.
• Training & Mentorship: Organize training sessions for writers, journalists, and content creators to help them refine their writing skills and editorial knowledge.
• SEO Compliance: Ensure that articles incorporate relevant keywords, meta descriptions, and search-friendly formatting to enhance discoverability on Google and Bing.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Flawless English Proficiency: Expertise in grammar, punctuation, syntax, and semantics is essential.
• Content Editing & Proofreading: Strong background in copyediting, content refinement, and editorial structuring.
• Fast-Paced Workflow Adaptability: Ability to edit and refine content quickly and efficiently without compromising on quality.
• SEO Knowledge: Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) best practices is a plus.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to spot and correct errors, inconsistencies, and redundancies in articles.
• Degree in Journalism or English: A university degree in journalism, media studies, English, or a related field is preferred.
• 1-2 Years of Digital Media Experience: Prior experience in digital publishing, online media, or content editing is an advantage.
• Remote Work Readiness: Must have a stable internet connection, a laptop (minimum Intel Core i3), and a distraction-free work environment.
• Communication & Collaboration: Strong ability to work with writers, editors, and media professionals across different locations.
