Introduction

With a focus on ensuring safe and environmentally friendly operations, we are seeking a dedicated Compliance Officer to join our team at our Head Office in Nairobi. This role is pivotal in fostering a safe workplace and ensuring environmental compliance across all operations.


Key Responsibilities

As the Compliance Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring that health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld throughout our operations. Your responsibilities will include:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Management

  • Conduct needs assessments across all sites to determine PPE requirements.
  • Oversee the PPE ordering process, monitor usage, and assist in issuance while maintaining accurate records.

Fire Safety Management

  • Monitor and maintain firefighting appliances and conduct fire drills at least once a year per site.
  • Ensure all fire-related signage is visible and complies with legal standards.

First Aid Coordination

  • Ensure adequate representation of First Aid staff in each department and site.
  • Participate in the selection and training of new First Aid staff.
  • Monitor the use and management of First Aid kits.

Training and Awareness Programs

  • Organize relevant safety training programs for various departments.
  • Enhance employee awareness of workplace hazards and safety protocols.

Hazard Identification and Mitigation

  • Identify hazards within the workplace and maintain a hazard logbook.
  • Ensure timely removal of identified hazards and regularly discuss potential risks with staff.

Audit Preparation and Compliance

  • Assist in preparing for farm audits such as ETI and Fairtrade audits to meet regulatory standards.
  • Conduct annual NEMA self-audits across all farms.

Hygiene and Random Audits

  • Conduct random audits to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety records.

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Educational Background

  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years in health, safety, and environmental management, ideally in an agricultural or manufacturing setup.

Technical Expertise

  • Familiarity with audit processes (ETI, Fairtrade, OSH, NEMA standards).
  • Proficiency in PPE management, including needs assessment, ordering, issuance, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of fire safety procedures, including firefighting equipment maintenance and fire drills.
  • Strong understanding of local occupational health and safety regulations and environmental management laws.
  • Knowledge of NEMA requirements and the ability to conduct self-audits.

First Aid and Hazard Management

  • First Aid skills, including monitoring First Aid kits and mentoring First Aid staff.
  • Excellent hazard identification and mitigation abilities.

Additional Skills

  • Proficient in report writing and maintaining detailed audit records.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and addressing workplace risks.
