INTRODUCTION

The Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) is seeking a highly motivated Communications Assistant to enhance its internal and external communication efforts. This role presents an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about climate innovation, strategic messaging, stakeholder engagement, and brand management. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring KCIC’s visibility, amplifying program outcomes, and managing digital communications effectively. As a Communications Assistant, you will work closely with the Communication and Knowledge Management Officer to develop compelling narratives that highlight KCIC’s impact in addressing climate challenges. Your role will involve crafting content that resonates with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, corporate partners, investors, entrepreneurs, and the general public. You will be instrumental in executing communication strategies that strengthen KCIC’s position as a thought leader in climate innovation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Digital Communications & Social Media Management

  • Oversee and manage KCIC’s social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, ensuring consistent messaging.
  • Develop and implement content calendars aligned with strategic objectives and current trends.
  • Foster audience engagement by responding to inquiries and facilitating discussions.
  • Monitor and analyze social media performance using digital analytics tools, making data-driven recommendations.
  • Stay updated on emerging digital trends and integrate best practices into KCIC’s social media strategy.
  • Utilize SEO techniques to enhance content visibility across digital channels.

2. Content Creation & Multimedia Production

  • Develop high-quality written content, including press releases, blog articles, newsletters, and program reports.
  • Design engaging visual content (infographics, graphics, and videos) using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Adapt messaging to cater to different stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and partner organizations.
  • Collaborate with program teams to produce compelling case studies that showcase KCIC’s impact.
  • Ensure that all digital content aligns with KCIC’s branding guidelines and organizational objectives.

3. Program Communications & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with program teams to document success stories, case studies, and impact narratives.
  • Support the development of proposals, donor reports, and briefing materials to highlight KCIC’s achievements.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including policymakers, private sector partners, and international organizations, to amplify KCIC’s impact.
  • Develop strategic communication materials that effectively articulate KCIC’s role in driving climate innovation.
  • Leverage partnerships to expand KCIC’s outreach and influence within the climate space.

4. Event Coordination & Media Relations

  • Assist in organizing conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Draft media kits, coordinate interviews, and manage press relations to amplify KCIC’s reach.
  • Provide support in crisis communication scenarios by drafting real-time response messaging.
  • Develop event promotional materials and manage digital coverage to maximize participation and engagement.
  • Build relationships with journalists, bloggers, and influencers to enhance KCIC’s media presence.

5. Internal Communications & Administrative Support

  • Develop internal newsletters, memos, and updates to keep staff informed of key developments.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of media contacts, digital archives, and past projects.
  • Support internal communication efforts to align teams with organizational priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing initiatives to strengthen internal capacity in communications.

6. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Track and analyze the effectiveness of communication campaigns.
  • Integrate stakeholder feedback to enhance engagement strategies and content effectiveness.
  • Conduct industry research to stay updated on emerging digital tools and trends.
  • Generate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to communications and digital engagement.

7. Brand Management & Consistency

  • Ensure adherence to KCIC’s brand guidelines across all communication materials.
  • Regularly update digital and print content to maintain brand consistency.
  • Provide guidance to teams, partners, and vendors on branding requirements.
  • Develop storytelling strategies that enhance KCIC’s narrative and visibility.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Multimedia Production, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in communications, digital marketing, or public relations.
  • Experience working with NGOs or international development organizations is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools and digital analytics platforms.
  • Strong expertise in graphic design and multimedia production, including Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro.
  • Strong storytelling and writing skills with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in event coordination, stakeholder engagement, and media relations.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of climate change communication and sustainability trends is an added advantage.
