As part of this mission, HJFMRI is seeking a qualified and dedicated Accountant to join the team in Nairobi, Kenya. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that supports military medical research and operations.
Key Responsibilities
As an Accountant at HJFMRI, you will:
- Perform Day-to-Day Accounting Operations
- Ensure the timely completion of monthly closings and reconciliations.
- Manage general ledger entries, including accounts payables, accounts receivables, travel advances, and liquidations.
- Oversee wire transfers and other financial transactions.
- Prepare Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Conduct monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
- Ensure compliance with established monthly closing schedules.
- Compliance with Statutory Reporting Requirements
- Prepare and file necessary reports in accordance with Kenyan statutory regulations.
- Support Financial Reporting
- Assist with routine and ad hoc financial reports as requested by the Regional Accounting Supervisor.
- Maintain Accounting Records
- Ensure proper documentation and digital recordkeeping for all transactions.
- Adhere to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for payment vouchers.
- Address Accounting Issues
- Respond promptly to any accounting-related concerns or queries to ensure smooth operations.
- Perform Additional Duties
- Undertake other tasks as assigned to support HJFMRI’s regional financial operations.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you must meet the following qualifications:
Education and Experience
- University degree in Accounting from a recognized institution.
- Professional certification (CPA, ACCA) is highly desired.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a busy accounting environment is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan statutory reporting requirements and regulations.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages.
- Familiarity with audit and compliance requirements for U.S. government-funded projects.
- Expertise in internal controls and maintaining confidentiality.
- Prior experience within a medical research setting is an added advantage.
