KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will take on a broad spectrum of duties with a strong emphasis on accuracy, integrity, and timeliness. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare and maintain accurate and timely financial statements, records, and reports, ensuring full compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Perform bank, ledger, and inter-company reconciliations monthly and resolve any discrepancies in a timely and efficient manner.
- Handle all matters related to accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments to vendors and proper invoicing to clients.
- Supervise petty cash and staff imprests, ensuring all disbursements follow company procedures and proper documentation is maintained.
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including PAYE, VAT, NHIF, NSSF, Withholding Tax, and all other government-mandated deductions and submissions.
- Collaborate with HR and payroll teams to ensure accurate salary payments and timely remittance of statutory deductions.
- Coordinate with external and internal auditors during audits and provide all necessary supporting documentation and explanations.
- Play a key role in budget preparation and forecasting, working with departmental heads to ensure strategic financial alignment.
- Analyze financial data for trends and variances to support cost control and profitability initiatives.
- Monitor the company’s cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet operational requirements.
- Review contracts and business proposals to provide input on their financial impact and compliance.
- Maintain and improve internal financial controls and processes, minimizing risk and ensuring operational efficiency.
- Support monthly and annual closings, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Utilize accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP) for all day-to-day financial operations.
- Regularly review tax legislation and accounting updates to ensure up-to-date compliance practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
To be eligible for this role, the following minimum qualifications and skills are required:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related business field.
- CPA (K) certification is a must. Candidates without this certification will not be considered.
- A minimum of 3-4 years of progressive experience in accounting jobs in Kenya, preferably in the private sector or a fast-moving business environment.
- Solid understanding of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) statutory obligations and tax reporting.
- Proficiency in financial management systems, ERP accounting platforms, and Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional understanding of auditing processes, financial controls, and compliance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also thriving in a team-based setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to work with complex datasets and present insights clearly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Membership with ICPAK (Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya).
- Working knowledge of international donor compliance guidelines or project accounting is a plus.
- Familiarity with auditing jobs in Kenya or prior audit firm experience will be advantageous.
