Job Purpose

The Assistant Director – Internal Audit and Risk is responsible for coordinating and implementing policies, procedures, plans, and strategies related to internal auditing and risk management. This role ensures the effectiveness and efficiency of the Commission’s operations by maintaining high standards of internal controls and risk assessment procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the execution of audit and risk work plans.
  • Oversee internal audit and risk teams to ensure the completion of assignments.
  • Prepare high-quality audit reports for Management and the Audit Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with internal auditing policies, procedures, and professional best practices.
  • Develop and execute specialized audits to respond to emerging issues.
  • Identify and evaluate risks in the development of the division’s risk register.
  • Supervise staff performance, mentoring, coaching, and professional development.
  • Manage the division’s budget and ensure efficient resource utilization.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with five (5) years of experience.
  • Professional certifications: CPA(K), CIA, CISA, or ACCA.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and build cohesive teams.
  • Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

Job Purpose
