DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES AND OUTPUTS
1. Application Development & Technical Support – 30%
- Act as the lead engineer for second and third-level application support for NCBA’s Digital Banking Ecosystem – including USSD, Mobile Apps, Internet Banking, and M-PESA Payment APIs.
- Identify and solve integration issues with third-party payment processors, telecom providers (e.g., Safaricom, Airtel), and internal bank systems.
- Continuously monitor and optimize performance of digital retail banking platforms, ensuring low latency and high concurrency.
- Implement best practices in documentation, performance tuning, patch deployment, container orchestration, and version control (e.g., Docker, Git).
- Interface directly with development teams, QA analysts, and business units to align technology performance with user expectations.
2. Incident Resolution and Problem Management – 40%
- Provide fast and effective resolution of system issues that affect customer experience or business continuity.
- Implement structured root cause analysis (RCA) and log auditing to troubleshoot service downtime or transaction errors in real-time.
- Maintain a reliable and highly available 24/7 support framework to respond to incidents on all digital banking platforms.
- Engage in post-incident reviews and deploy preventive measures to improve resilience.
- Ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are consistently met, with minimal disruptions to critical banking services.
3. Change Management and Project Participation – 10%
- Lead System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and deployment for upgrades, patch releases, and continuous improvements in mobile banking solutions.
- Collaborate with project managers and digital innovation teams to deploy new digital products, features, or compliance fixes.
- Manage release pipelines for containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes), including security scanning and rollback protocols.
4. IT Governance, Risk & Cybersecurity – 10%
- Support the enforcement of internal controls to secure customer data and protect digital assets across internet and mobile banking platforms.
- Develop monitoring policies to detect unauthorized access attempts, suspicious transactions, or configuration anomalies.
- Ensure all digital systems have robust audit trail mechanisms to support traceability and meet audit and compliance requirements.
- Align operations with CBK regulations, PCI DSS, and other relevant security frameworks.
5. Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery – 10%
- Identify critical systems and dependencies for mobile and internet banking.
- Design DR scenarios and conduct quarterly testing to validate recovery readiness.
- Coordinate with IT Infrastructure and Core Systems Managers to implement geographic redundancy for key services.
- Ensure documentation is continuously updated, reviewed, and communicated across all relevant teams.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline from a recognized institution.
- Certification in Oracle, Unix/Linux administration, or Digital Banking platforms will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in supporting or developing mobile banking jobs, internet banking environments, or FinTech integrations.
- Practical knowledge of:
- 3-Tier Architecture (Application, Web, Database)
- Middleware tools (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Containerized environments (Docker)
- CI/CD pipelines and testing suites
- Oracle and MS SQL databases
- Digital wallet APIs, MPESA Paybill, and Till integrations
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Problem Solving: Analytical thinking, issue diagnostics, RCA reporting, and performance tuning.
- Agility and Adaptability: Working across multiple product teams and transitioning seamlessly between agile sprints and long-term IT roadmap execution.
- Communication: Ability to convey complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and communicate effectively with regulators, vendors, and partners.
- Project Leadership: Leading technical resources in delivering tasks for product rollouts, security audits, and feature enhancements.
