Introduction

Are you a recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in your technical field? A well-established private girls’ boarding school in Thika is offering exciting internship opportunities for talented, hardworking, and disciplined National Youth Service (NYS) graduates. This internship program provides a structured, real-world learning experience where interns can develop practical skills, expand their professional networks, and increase their employment prospects in Kenya’s competitive job market.

As an intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals, gain firsthand exposure to industry best practices, and contribute to the daily operations of an established institution. The program is designed to build your expertise in your specific trade, preparing you for future employment opportunities within and beyond the educational sector.

About the Internship

This internship program is designed to offer fresh NYS graduates technical, on-the-job experience in a structured educational institution setting. Interns will have the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to practical workplace scenarios, receive mentorship, and refine their trade skills under professional supervision.

Additionally, all interns will be automatically added to the institution’s talent pool, giving them priority consideration for new roles within the organization. Those who demonstrate outstanding performance may be considered for full-time employment at the institution upon completion of the internship period.

Available Internship Positions

The institution is currently seeking interns in the following skilled trades:

  1. Electricians – Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems within the institution. Gain experience in troubleshooting electrical faults, wiring new installations, and ensuring all systems comply with safety regulations.
  2. Carpenters – Work on repairing and constructing wooden structures, including furniture, doors, and educational facility fixtures. Learn to read blueprints, measure accurately, and handle woodworking machinery.
  3. Plumbers – Support the maintenance and repair of water systems, sanitation units, and drainage systems within the school. Assist in fixing leaks, installing new plumbing systems, and ensuring efficient water management.
  4. Welders – Work with metal fabrication, welding, and repairing school structures, including gates, furniture, and other metal installations. Develop proficiency in using welding equipment and following safety protocols.
  5. Agronomists – Assist in managing the institution’s agricultural projects, including crop cultivation, soil management, and greenhouse maintenance. Learn practical agronomy techniques to improve food production and sustainability efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily technical operations within the institution related to your trade.
  • Work under the supervision of experienced professionals to gain industry knowledge.
  • Perform assigned tasks efficiently while adhering to workplace safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various technical installations as required.
  • Participate in routine inspections and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Collaborate with fellow interns and institutional staff to complete projects on time.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition.
  • Follow all institutional policies and procedures to ensure a professional work environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Fresh graduate from the college classes of 2024 or 2025.
  • Examinations: Successfully completed KNEC Module I, II, & III (provide transcripts if certificates are not yet collected).
  • Academic Performance: Excellent academic records demonstrating technical proficiency.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Work Ethic: High levels of discipline, dedication, and willingness to learn.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform hands-on technical tasks that may involve lifting and maneuvering equipment.

Terms and Conditions of the Internship

  • Duration: Six months, starting March 2025.
  • Monthly Stipend: KES 15,000 (subject to statutory deductions).
  • Accommodation & Meals: Provided by the institution at no cost to the intern.
  • Job Absorption: High potential for securing full-time employment based on performance during the internship period.
