As the Director of Community and Volunteer Engagement, you will drive initiatives to expand networks, strengthen partnerships, and cultivate a thriving volunteer community. ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) is a non-profit organization committed to increasing opportunities for women and gender-diverse individuals in STEM. Through mentorship, advocacy, professional development, and outreach, SCWIST works to empower individuals to thrive in STEM careers. With a mission to drive equity, SCWIST collaborates with industry leaders, educational institutions, and community organizations to eliminate barriers and foster an inclusive environment for all.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and oversee volunteer engagement strategies to enhance community involvement.
- Build and nurture partnerships with STEM professionals, industry leaders, and educational institutions.
- Represent the organization at networking events, conferences, and community outreach programs.
- Manage the recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of volunteers.
- Develop and implement policies that ensure an inclusive and rewarding volunteer experience.
- Work with program leads to identify and facilitate meaningful volunteer opportunities.
- Lead initiatives to celebrate and recognize the contributions of volunteers.
- Mobilize community members to participate in advocacy initiatives promoting equity in STEM.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create content showcasing volunteer impact stories.
- Track engagement metrics to assess the effectiveness of community programs.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support engagement activities.
- Align volunteer and community engagement strategies with the organization’s long-term goals.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in community engagement, volunteer management, or a related nonprofit leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in building relationships and mobilizing equity-seeking communities.
- Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
- Either holds or is pursuing certification as a Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional.
- Proven experience in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) leadership.
- Strong background in event planning, partnership development, and public speaking.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting while fostering collaboration.
- Passion for promoting diversity in STEM and supporting underrepresented communities.
- Proficiency in project management and organizational systems such as Asana, Better Impact, Salesforce, and Power BI.
