KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Conduct critical patient assessments and initiate necessary interventions to stabilize conditions.
  • Engage in daily consultations with doctors and healthcare professionals to coordinate treatment plans and ensure optimal patient care.
  • Administer medications and treatments as per physician’s directives while closely monitoring patient reactions.
  • Relay accurate and real-time patient condition reports to clinical staff for informed decision-making.
  • Promptly identify and report any abnormal test readings or patient symptoms to the supervisor.
  • Ensure correct labeling and immediate dispatch of patient specimens to the laboratory.
  • Maintain a well-prepared ward environment, ensuring proper organization before patient admissions and after discharges.
  • Provide patient education on post-hospitalization care and wellness practices to promote recovery.
  • Address patient inquiries, complaints, and emergencies with professionalism and prompt action.
  • Guide and mentor junior nurses and nursing students assigned to the department.
  • Oversee and ensure smooth operation of the ICU during assigned shifts.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the job role.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

 

  • Educational Requirements: Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (KRCCN) is mandatory.
  • Additional Academic Background: Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN). A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is an added advantage.
  • Work Experience: At least one (1) year of post-KRCCN licensure experience in a critical care unit, plus a minimum of two (2) years as a general nurse.
  • Certifications: Must possess valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
    • Advanced proficiency in nursing care techniques and emergency response
    • Familiarity with International Patient Safety Goals
    • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
    • Commitment to continuous professional growth and development
