Job Overview
Power Shift Africa (PSA) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Climate Adaptation and Resilience Advisor to lead strategic engagement with key stakeholders across Africa and globally. This role focuses on climate policy, adaptation strategies, and resilience building to empower communities affected by climate change. The successful candidate will drive policy research, stakeholder engagement, and thought leadership to elevate Africa’s voice in global climate dialogues.
This position is hybrid, allowing remote work with regular travel across Africa and internationally for high-level engagements and conferences.

Key Responsibilities
1. Research and Analysis
- Develop evidence-based policy positions and briefings on climate adaptation and resilience in Africa.
- Conduct in-depth research on climate adaptation strategies, smallholder farmer resilience, and sustainable development.
- Contribute to UNFCCC policy discussions, with a strong focus on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA).
- Produce technical papers, reports, and workshop materials in collaboration with PSA teams and partners.
2. Stakeholder Engagement & Diplomacy
- Develop and execute a strategic engagement plan with government officials, international organizations, and civil society groups.
- Represent PSA in high-level dialogues, shaping Africa’s adaptation policies in regional and international climate forums.
- Strengthen the capacity of policymakers, smallholder farmers, and local actors to influence adaptation strategies.
- Establish a regional adaptation and resilience dialogue platform to facilitate informed decision-making.
3. Strategic Communication & Thought Leadership
- Work with the PSA Media and Communications team to develop thought leadership materials.
- Lead the creation of African climate narratives, ensuring adaptation policies reflect on-the-ground realities.
- Engage in public speaking, panel discussions, and media engagements to advocate for climate adaptation policies.
4. Program Coordination & Advisory Support
- Provide technical expertise in project planning, implementation, and monitoring.
- Contribute to fundraising proposals, ensuring alignment with the latest climate adaptation priorities.
- Advise African governments, African Group of Negotiators (AGN), AMCEN, and other strategic stakeholders.
5. Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor and supervise Programme Officers, fostering capacity-building and career growth.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and create personal development plans.
- Promote knowledge-sharing and teamwork across PSA’s diverse teams.
Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree in Climate Change & Development, Public Policy, International Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in climate adaptation, resilience-building, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proven track record in climate policy research, negotiation processes, and African climate diplomacy.
- Strong international and regional networks within the climate adaptation and resilience sectors.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Strategic communication expertise, with the ability to convey complex issues effectively.
- Fluency in English (French proficiency is an added advantage).
