Key Responsibilities of a Heavy Plant Mechanic

As a Heavy Plant Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy machinery to ensure seamless operations. Your duties include but are not limited to:

• Inspecting and servicing heavy machinery such as bulldozers, cranes, graders, and other construction equipment for optimal performance.
• Diagnosing faults and malfunctions using computerized diagnostic tools and other testing equipment.
• Determining the extent of necessary repairs and developing effective maintenance strategies.
• Testing repaired equipment to ensure safety and efficiency in performance.
• Cleaning, lubricating, and performing preventive maintenance on heavy plant machinery.
• Ensuring compliance with all safety regulations while conducting maintenance and repair work.
• Documenting and reporting mechanical issues to supervisors.
• Following maintenance schedules to prevent unexpected breakdowns and minimize downtime.
• Performing additional tasks as directed by the Workshop Manager or senior management.

Required Qualifications & Skills

To qualify for this Heavy Plant Mechanic position, you must possess:

• A Certificate/Diploma in Automotive Engineering (preferably with a Heavy Plant Option).
• A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working with heavy diesel engines and plant machinery.
• Proficiency in mechanical diagnostics and the use of computerized fault-detection tools.
• Strong ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• In-depth knowledge of big diesel engines, including repair, maintenance, and performance optimization.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety protocols and industry regulations.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and management.
